The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team lost to Fredericksburg Heritage 52-14 Sept. 13 in the Battle for the Rock.
The Flames (1-2) now prepare for Nueces Canyon at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Britton Field on the Faith Academy campus.
The contest against Heritage played out for four quarters.
“(The Eagles) did a really good job controlling the clock and executing their offense and defense,” Faith head coach Jay Silvers said. “They schemed well for our guys. Our offense never got going.”
The Flames’ spread offense works best when they’re balanced running and passing the ball. Heritage focused on limiting Faith’s rushing attack to make the Flames one dimensional.
“Our running game did OK; it was kind of shut down,” Silvers said. “We missed some passes. We missed our receivers. We didn’t execute.”
Meanwhile, Heritage had its offense moving thanks to its rushing attack.
“They had a couple of runs and took control,” Silvers said. “They had a few big breaks and some big runs. They were being efficient with the ball on first and second down. Once they got the lead, they slowed everything down on us. They were efficient.”
The Flames took an 8-6 lead thanks a passing touchdown to junior Andrew Houy from senior Carter Fromberg. Fromberg had a two-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter.
“They ran a solid offense that kept everyone at bay,” the coach said.
